SLSB - AG - 11 July 2pm

As every year, we will be holding our annual General Assembly Meeting (AG) at the usual place, George and Dragon. (217 Rue Albert Unden, Luxembourg)

We will be looking back at events from the past year and elect a new committee. So if you think you're up for a bit of a challenge or always wanted to get involved with the SLSB, this is your chance. Every member can stand for election to the new committee. So if you are interested you can let us know (committee@slsb.lu) or just come along on the day.

This will also be a good opportunity to catch up with fellow SLSB members and to enjoy some drinks on us. So hopefully we will see many of you on the 11th.

December Round-up

To make your stay at home during the Christmas break worthwhile, we would like our members to join us in a couple of traditional SLSB activities:

On 19th December our annual Pubquiz will take place at “The Pyg” in Luxembourg/City, and we would be delighted to see you participate in our five rounds of questions in order to win free drink vouchers. This event will start at about 7 pm, participation fee is 3€/team.

A couple days later the SLSB are sending a brave delegation of more or less sporty students to the Tournoi de Noël, which again is being joint-organised by LASEL and ACEL at Campus Geesseknäppchen.
The SLSB hope to have fun and maybe stand a chance in the basketball and volleyball events on the 22nd and to improve on last year's results in the football competition on the 23rd December. You do not need to have much experience in any of the sports (and especially not if you're interested in joining our football team) to make a useful contribution to our roster. It is a wonderful occasion to get to know fellow UK students.

So please, even if you do not feel like being part of any of the teams, feel free to come and support your society. If you want to participate in one or more of these competitions, please contact our secretary at: chris.pesch@slsb.lu or leave a message on our wall.
Tournoi de Noel Facebook Event!!

To round it all off, on 27th December we will hold our Britbal at Scott's Pub in Luxembourg/City, our British night out in Luxembourg. Our DJ, Ben Andrews, will play the best British music ranging from classic britpop to the most popular modern rock and indie tunes, and much more. Doors open at 9pm, entrance is 2€ for members, and 3€ for non-members.

The Kleschen comes to London

After having such a great success last year, the Kleschen and the Housiker have decided that they will come back to London this year. The Kleschen will bring some sweets for those who have been nice this year, and the Housiker will take care of the others. We will be dressing up as angels, so if you want to do the same, you are welcome.

Financial Aids:

There are 2 new student grants which are interesting for students studying in the UK. The British council set up a grant for posgraduate students studying law. The other grant is setup by the „Fondation Auguste Van Werveke-Hanno“ and applies to students in the domains of arts, design, advertising/media and interior design.

Lëtzebuergesch course in London

For everyone interested, Eddie Bohnert has setup a Lëtzebuergesch course in London. There will be a free taster lesson, open to all, on Saturday 10th at October at Rosetta Translation, 47 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1BJ, from 10.00am till 12.00noon.

Stroossbuerger Studentenolympiad (25.07.2009)

Once again, after last year's successful first edition, the students from Strasbourg are hosting their "Studentenolympiad", which is all about logical thinking, skillfulness and team spirit. The SLSB are once again sending a delegation of brave students from the British Isles to Walferdange in order to defend our society's honour. If you want to be one of them, please send me a confirmation mail (chris.pesch@slsb.lu) until Friday 15th July. The event will be held at the uni.lu campus in Walferdange, and start at noon. It will be followed by an after-party at Sandkaul.

Chevening Scholarship

The British Embassy in Luxembourg, in association with British Chamber of Commerce and their sponsors run a scholarship programme to encourage young people from Luxembourg to study in the United Kingdom. Final submission date is march 16 2009.
